Himachal Institute of Education was established in 1999 in the Solan Public School complex . The Institute was started by the Amar Education Society, a duly recognized and registered society by the H.P. Govt. and is based at Solan. The Society is engaged in establishing secular educational institution(s) open to all irrespective of caste, creed or social status for the all - round development of younger generation. It primarily stresses the development of desirable social attitudes and awareness about the evils of casteism, separatism, communalism, regionalism and linguism. Its ambition, apart from spreading general education, is to organize, promote and carry out education and training of the handicapped, mentally retarded, economically poor and deprived and create awareness among the public and sensitise them about such matters. The Himachal Institute of Education is affiliated to HP University, Shimla and is recognized by the HP Govt and approved by NCTE since 1999.



Renowned academician Prof. K. L. Dhar, who is the founder president of the society, heads the educational faculty of the society. During his service career with the HP Govt. he was associated with organizing and conducting training courses for the teachers at all levels primary, secondary and won appreciation and help from such organizations as Ford Foundation and the British Council of India. He has won a large number of national awards. He is a prolific writer. He has authored many books. He is widely travelled in India, Asia and Western Europe. He was associated with almost all academic bodies of the H.P. University for a number of years.
